Our volunteer initiative finally delivered oral histories of Czechoslovak survivors of Stalinism in English and on-line. Although the Czech-English language barrier still proves a challenge, we hope to overcome this, given time. But for now, we are taking small steps and hope you will excuse lower quality of the translated texts. Thank you for your comprehension!
This book is part of a larger project targeted at commemorating victims and survivors of Stalinism. We, the young volunteers from the Czech Republic, are introducing life stories of former political prisoners as an educational tool for youth and wider public. Lives of political prisoners persecuted in 1950s, then young people themselves, seem hardly believable today. It is the very subject of our interest, the narrators and their personal beliefs, strengths and hopes that underline the times when Europe was split into two ideological blocs. It is their stories that question the basic values we take for granted nowadays. It is their voices that commemorate the victims and survivors of Stalinism.
